Message from the President

How the times are a changing!

How is your garden growing? This is the natural time of year when we physically connect with the ground below us and the sky above us patiently listening as nature indicates the start of our spring plantings. As we feel the warmer temperatures creeping in, fellow gardeners venture forth to start the preparation in their garden beds: by straightening out the edges and extracting a few weeds, trimming the shrubs and tilling and amending the soil, searching to see which overwintered additions are surfacing. Appreciating the pops of colour from the daffodils, hellebores, and virginia bluebells foreshadowing the arrival of the tulips, alliums with peonies adding fragrance to the air, gardeners unite in song and dance. The leaves of the shade plants slowly open to reveal their brightness and texture providing a restful cool corner amongst our protected habitats.

At the end of the day, the work gloves and sun hat have been laid to rest as we nurture our soul. Our ever evolving gardens provide comfort and security as we take a few extra minutes to enjoy a newly unfurled leaf of our favourite houseplant in the front window slowly being shadowed by the changing buds of a well-established tree. We can rest assured that the newly planted seedlings will be bringing forth a fortifying harvest in weeks to come.

We have unfortunately been given an opportunity to stop and smell the world around us where reflection and contemplation will occupy our inner thoughts for some time. Phone a friend and share what is happening with the flowers on your balcony or the critters in your backyard or the sunrise and the sunset of another grateful day.
