Speaker: Susie Everding
Presentation: Get Growing! The Evolution of a Vegetable Garden From Monoculture to Agriculture in 3 weeks
They say timing is everything and this certainly applies to vegetable growing. With a little bit of planning, preparation and your favorite calendar in hand, you can turn a mediocre harvest into a season to remember. Susie will share some of her tips that have helped convert the front lawn of her midtown Kingston house into a productive foodscape.
Susie Everding grew up on a hobby farm near Kingston. She spent years studying birds in far-flung corners of the world. When she returned to Canada, she turned her love of things that fly in the air, to things that grow in the ground. For 25 years she has been an avid vegetable grower, CSA operator and has encouraged people to try growing their own food. She is now a Master Gardener in training and actively involved in Kingston’s gardening fraternity. Having recently moved from the country to a mid-city lot, Susie has become a conspicuous and enthusiastic urban farmer in her community and will talk about science-based gardening practices to whomever will listen.
